Astrid Schernhammer

Our very own Malta experience

Day 1: orientation walk /bowling

We got to meet our host family for the very first time and it appears to be the most friendly and caring one. The first thing they did was offering us a piece of cake (I didn´t know we looked that undernourished!), but I welcomed it after the horrible sandwich on the plane.

In the evening. we went bowling, our group leader thought he would win easily- I had a lot of fun because I won ;-)

Day 2: island Gozo

Today, we went on a daytrip to Gozo, a small island north of Malta. A tourguide told us a lot about the history of the island and showed us some very beautiful places. For example “Fungus Rock”, which is a huge rock in the middle of the sea. The view was just breathtaking and we definitely enjoyed  the tour we could attend.

Day 3: Marsaxlokk/cinema night

We had our first day at school, where we were introduced to our very nice English teacher and did a little placement test.

After school we went to Marsaxlokk, a beautiful little fishermen's village where it didn’t smell of fish J. There was also a bunch of stray cats which were fed by locals.

In the evening we went to the cinema, where I, as a true Marvel fan, watched their new movie “Black Panther”. I really liked it and it was no difficulty for me to watch it in English.

Day 4: Sliema/ Valetta by night

During lunch break we tasted Pastizzi which were very good and a national dish of Malta.

After school I won  our fun catwalk competition with our brand new ESE T-shirts. J

In the afternoon we went to Sliema to look for souvenirs and were allowed to do a little shopping. In a shopping centre I wanted to use the moving stairs and was going on the right side when I suddenly realised that I had to go to the left side. :o !

Day 5: sandy beach trip

After school, we went to the beach. It was very cold and windy even though the sun was shining without cease. It was a fun afternoon- we tried not to freeze, played football, volleyball (ME doing SPORTS?!) and had a BBQ.

Day 6: Mdina and Rabat

In the second half of the school day, we got the task of creating a magazine together. I decided to draw “Fungus Rock”.

On the last day we said goodbye to our English teacher and went to Valetta- the capital of Malta

Day 7: Flight 2 Austria

Departure at freaking 4:10!

Thought of 101 ways to die in/nearby/ because of a plane (we REALLY found 101 ways; it was absolutely amusing).

teachers´comment: Luckily we did get back home safely with a big

Johanna Bossniak
